Again this year, there will be a Polar Plunge held at Alta at K Station (555 West Kinzie Street) to usher in the unofficial opening of skyscraper pool season in Chicago. The date is Saturday, April 14, 2012.
We covered the plunge last year, and it was a good time. But even if you don’t live in Alta, you can still participate. Since it’s a charity event, with money going to Children’s Memorial Hospital, members of the general public are encouraged to participate.
The change this year is that Randy Fifield, vice chair and principal of Fifield Companies which owns the building, will be taking the plunge, too.

Alta at K Station Residents and Randy Fifield Dive in for Charity:
2nd Annual Polar Plunge Set for April 14, Proceeds Benefit Children’s Memorial Hospital
The residents of Alta at K Station, the country’s largest Gold LEED-certified apartment complex, are warming up for summer with the building’s 2nd Annual Polar Plunge. Open to the public, the plunge will take place in the building’s eighth-floor outdoor pool at 10 a.m. All proceeds from a $10 admission fee will be donated to the Children’s Memorial Hospital Fund; Chicago-based Fifield Companies, developer of K Station, will match the total donation.
Admission price includes four drink tickets for a Bloody Mary bar and beer station for all plungers and spectators over the age of 21. The first 50 attendees will receive a free t-shirt with their admission fee. Post plunge, participants can warm up in the building’s jacuzzi or by the outdoor fire pit. To register for the Polar Plunge, contact Christine@altaatkstation.com.
The Polar Plunge also marks the opening of the pool and Jacuzzi at Alta at K Station for the spring/summer season. Most Chicago apartment buildings don’t open their outdoor pools until Memorial Day.
Alta at K Station represents the third and fourth towers at K Station, the $850 million master-planned community located in the Fulton River District and the Chicago River. Since its 2010 opening, the 848-unit Alta at K Station has become one of the fastest-leasing luxury apartment buildings in Chicago.
