There’s Now a Wal-Mart Center in the West Loop

If you’ve been wondering about the status of the new Wal-Mart Express in Chicago’s West Loop, it looks like things are progressing.

We’d originally heard that it would open in August, and with the month half way over, we’re starting to have our doubts.

Peeks inside the construction zone show there’s a lot of work still to do.  But there are also hopeful signs.  Literally.

Paper signs have been placed on Tower 4 at Presidential Towers (555 West Madison Street), labeling the rear ground-floor office space the “Wal-Mart Center” and other signs look like they’re directing potential employees to the door they need to use.

It’s a lot better than the CityTarget, which is supposed to be built inside the old Carson Pirie Scott Building (now the Sullivan Center, 33 South State Street).  There have been no signs of physical progress on that at all.

Both projects have been added to our interactive map of projects going up in Chicago.  It’s a work in progress, and if you’d like to help contribute to it, just shoot an e-mail to editor@chicagoarchitecture.info
