Slice of Life: A Squint in the West Loop

An O'Hare Airport fire truck in the West Loop

This unusual fire truck was spotted in the West Loop recently.  The local fire station has red trucks, not dayglo green/yellow.  Also, this truck is a little squatty compared with regular fire trucks.  If you click on the photograph to see it larger, the mystery is solved.  “O’Hare International Airport” is written across the top.

It’s strange that an airport fire truck would be parked in this location.  This truck has the word “Squint” written on the crew door.  A quick Google didn’t turn up any fire apparatus called “squints,” so maybe that’s the name of the truck, itself.
