Slice of Life: Looking Down on Downtown

Chicago skyline from Searns Quarry Park in Bridgeport

It’s not the highest point in Chicago, but it’s got one of the best views.  This is the view of The Loop from atop the mound at Stearns Quarry Park (2700 South Halsted Street) in Bridgeport.

The mound is formed from construction debris that was used as landfill in the quarry after it was abandoned decades ago.  The entire site has since been cleaned up and turned into a modern ecologically-friendly park, complete with a fishing hole.
