Chasing What Matters: The Chicago Theatre

An occasional e-mailer sent us this interesting photograph today.  It show the Chase bank logo at the top of the Chicago Theatre’s landmark marquee (175 North State Street).

It’s the first time the e-mailer noticed this, and it’s new to us, too.  Does anyone remember this being there before?

A search of the Chicago Theatre’s web site turned up nothing mentioning a change in the marquee to honor one of its sponsors (American Express and Delta are the venue’s other two big sponsors).

So, will this mean that The Chicago Theatre will become “The Chase Chicago Theatre” the same way that we now have The Cadillac Palace Theatre, The Ford Center for the Performing Arts, and the Bank of America Theatre?

It’s hard to say.  Currently, the masthead on the Chicago Theatre’s web site reads “The Chicago Theatre Presented by Chase.”  We’ll see if the order of those words change in the near future.

  1. I shot some B roll footage this summer of the Chicago Theatre sign and the Chase Logo was not there. I don’t remember the exact day, but it was super hot outside. Here is a link (timed up) of that footage.

Thanks for the confirmation that I’m not imagining things! I looked through my Chicago Theater photos, and the most recent one I found was 2010, so I didn’t consider it authoritative.
