It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas, 2012 – Part 12

InterContinental Hotel Chicago

Have you seen the new Christmas light display on the top of the InterContinental Hotel (505 North Michigan Avenue)?  The new illumination of the ramparts and onion dome came online November 17th during the Magnificent Mile Lights Festival.   The dome is lit from underneath in red, with sparkling animated white lights covering the top of the dome.

The whole thing is LEDs, with the lighting design by Robert Osten and Anna Baranczak of Lam Partners in Boston.  All of the companies involved put out press releases boasting their involvement in the project, but they contained very little actual information.  But it seems from what was released that the entire operation is programmable, so look for other colors once Christmas is over.

The crappy cameraphone picture above doesn’t do it justice.  Head over to Streeterville for the best views.
