The new residential tower embracing the MDA City Apartments in The Loop is growing quickly.
It was just two months ago that the ceremonial groundbreaking took place for 73 East Lake Street. At the time, the foundation was already laid, and the only way to go was up. That’s exactly what’s happened. The building’s parking/retail podium height is going to be 100 feet, so it still has a way to go until it reaches that milestone. The next stop is the 42nd floor, where the sky lobby will be.
The project was supposed to have a component facing North Wabash Street, but that hasn’t been built yet. In the official drawing, it looks like some kind of office space with a green roof.
Right now that space is being used for construction staging. The offices may still come. It’s an unusually tight and challenging space to work in, even for The Loop because of the elevated train tracks just feet away from the property line. In the schematics we published earlier this year, it’s labeled “Subarea B, existing parking lot to remain as interim use.”
