During the Art Deco era, Chicago was a bustling city growing faster than anyone could imagine.  That’s why its art deco masterpieces are scattered all over the city, and not just concentrated downtown or in one neighborhood.

The Powhattan Apartments (4950 South Chicago Beach Drive) down in Hyde Park are among Chicago’s art decor treasures, and was among those venues open to the public during the 2013 Open House Chicago.  Man_ofSteel went down to 50th Street and sent in these great pictures of the 1929 building that is seldom open to the public.
