The Pictures of Prentice Hospital You Never Wanted to See

Former Prentice Women's Hospital demolition

We all knew it was coming, but that doesn’t make it any less heartbreaking.

Major demolition work is now underway at the former Prentice Women’s Hospital (320 East Huron Street) in Streeterville. Up to now, the outward signs of the beloved Bertrand Goldberg building’s demise were limited to scaffolding and brutal noises. Now, exterior walls are starting to come down, the once voluptuous tower is now turning all ribs and dust, like Catherine Griswold’s Christmas turkey.

What’s next for this slice of Huron Street remains to be seen. Northwestern University is pondering five different proposals for a new laboratory building. You can see the designs here, and let Northwestern know what you think of them by clicking here.
