Even in a city as busily expanding as Chicago, it’s unusual to have two buildings going up at the same time on the same block. But that’s what’s happening at Chestnut and State in the Gold Coast.
Loyola hired Newmark to develop the residential tower at 1 East Chestnut Street. It will climb 410 feet into the sky and have 367 residences. It was designed by friends-of-the-blog, SCB.
SCB is also the talent behind the Quinlan School of Business, quite literally, next door. Loyola is developing the Quinlan building on its own, and when it’s done will have 10 stories of classrooms, offices, and meeting spaces.
The apartment tower should be open by this time next year. Students will have to wait until a few months after that to get a taste of their new classroom building.
