The LSAC Demolition: You Just Can’t Help But Stare

Demolition of the Lakeshore Athletic Club on Wabash Avenue

The former Lakeshore Athletic Club Building is quickly becoming a former building.  When we first reported the demolition of the Near North edifice a couple of weeks ago, it quickly became the most popular article of the month.

Loop Spy Ryan sent in the photograph above, showing the demolition, apparently taken from the nearby Hotel Palomar (505 North State Street.)

Our own Daniel Schell captured the photographs below a few days later.

There’s something about the demolition of a building that is perhaps more compelling than watching a building being built.  And there’s something about the way the LSAC was built, or the way it’s being taken apart, that makes it pure eye candy.

So, what is to become of the land at 441 North Wabash Avenue?  According to Crain’s Chicago Business, we are witnessing the demon birth of another surface parking lot.

Location: 441 North Wabash Avenue, Near North
