The first part of the Rees House relocation happened this morning, and Chicago Architecture Blog photographer Daniel Schell was there bright screaming early in the morning to catch the action.
The big show has yet to come—Moving the 126-year-old, 187-ton Rees House ever-so-gently from 2110 South Prairie Avenue to 2017 South Prairie Avenue to make way for McPier’s new DePaul arena and event center. That happens next month.
You could call today’s move a full-scale test run, as the coach house was moved up the street, supported by steel beams and dozens of tires.
