Slice of Life: The Lonely Beach

Ohio Street Beach

It’s something of an irony that one of the loneliest beaches in Chicago is also the one closest to its heart.  Loop Spy Eric sent in this photo of Ohio Street Beach (600 North Lake Shore Drive), which is at the end of a cove formed by Lake Shore Drive and the Jardine Water Filtration Plant (1000 East Ohio Street).  Most people who stumble upon this oasis are already dresses for other activities at nearby Navy Pier or along the Magnificent Mile, so they don’t take a dip. But if you go at the right time of year, you’ll see the city’s life guards swimming laps back and forth along the Lake Shore Drive seawall.
