Demolition crews are busy massacring an old warehouse and a surface parking lot in the Prairie Avenue District, turning them in to Chicago’s newest townhome development.
The project at East 18th Street and South Prairie Avenue is happening where the award-winning Lucien Lagrange-designed XO residential towers failed to take off.
The Chicago Architecture Blog’s Daniel Schell passed by and found heavy equipment tearing the guts out of the place. Scaffolding is also going up, indicating that soon the shell will be disassembled, brick by brick. No fancy Vegas-style implosions in the heart of the Prairie Avenue District.
When complete, there will be 62 townhouses ranging in size from 2,800 square feet to 4,300 square feet; each with two parking spaces.
