The hotel to be built down the street from the CTA’s Red Line Loyola station has been given a go-ahead from the Chicago Plan Commission. The NORR-designed Hampton Inn at 6566 North Sheridan Road is envisioned as six stories tall with 145 rooms over ground floor retail space.
While members of the commission were pleased with the hotel’s transit-oriented design, there was some question about its paltry parking plans. 44th Ward Alderman Tom Tunney questioned why the developer thought that just 20 parking spaces was enough for a 145-room hotel; even one situated so close to major train and bus lines. Under the city’s normal zoning regulations, the hotel would be required to have at least 31 parking spaces. The response was that the hotel developers are in negotiations with a large nearby garage to use 175 of its parking spaces that are not in use on a daily basis.
