The luxury condominium tower planned for 9 West Walton Street has gone from rumor to building permit in just five months, which must be some kind of record. That’s even faster than River Point, which had the personal backing of Mayor Rahm Emanuel. That’s faster than Wolf Point West, which cruised to reality on half-century-old zoning.
The city of Chicago churned out the first permits a few days ago:
FOUNDATION THROUGH GROUND FLOOR FOR A PROPOSED 35 STORY RESIDENTIAL TOWER- 9 WEST WALTON PLACE; UNDERPINNING PHASE ONLY- 935 NORTH DEARBORN STREET AS PER PLANS
The Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture-designed building will eventually rise a little over 400 feet into the Gold Coat sky. Developer James Letchinger has pledged to make this the best building in the neighborhood for the simple reason that he intends to live there.
