There’s good reason for that twinkle in your eye as you drive down Wells Street in the River North neighborhood; the new residential building at 707 North Wells has been installing windows over the last few weeks. Not the kind of windows that require a capital W and for you to completely re-learn how to use your computer though. These are the windows that will allow residents of the new building to keep an eye on all the River North happenings.
And if you’re an architecture/construction nerd like those of us at The Chicago Architecture Blog, that means keeping an eye on local projects like 720 North LaSalle (165 West Superior?) right next door, the soon-to-be-razed Gino’s East pizzeria, and the equally-doomed Ed Debevic’s site, both less than 2 blocks down Wells Street.
As for 707, the Akara Partners project is bringing 43 new units atop two floors of parking (41 spaces) and 4,600 square feet of retail space. It will also provide residents with a roof deck, making construction ogling that much more enjoyable.
