The familiar mushroom shape of a climbing platform atop an elevator core is delighting skyscraper nerds in Chicago’s Near North neighborhood. The excitement comes as the parking and retail podium for the 31-story skyscraper at 833 North Clark begins to assert itself.
Near North Spy Mike sent in this photo showing the central growth, aided by a tower crane also on the property. The exact height of the building is a little bit of a mystery right now. In October of 2014 the city approved this building to be 33 stories and about 380 feet tall with 373 apartments. But eight months later one of the development companies, Ryan Companies, stated the building would be just 31 stories tall with the same number of apartments. Set your tape measures to “stun” and we’ll see what happens here.
