Construction crews from W. E. O’Neil are hard at work at 832 West Fulton Market on what will soon be Chicago’s very own Brooklyn Bowl. Not to be confused with Brooklyn Boulders at Morgan and Monroe in West Town (though Brooklyn Bowlders, a gym where you climb walls and knock down pins as you go, would be cool), Brooklyn Bowl will combine a spacious, fancy bowling alley with event and retail space.
In the works for what seems like an eternity, Brooklyn Bowl was expected to be complete by the end of 2015. But now that work has actually started, expect a three-story building: the ground floor will be retail, while the second and third floors will comprise the bowing lanes and entertainment/event spaces. There will also be one level below grade for parking.
We’ve been told by project designer OKW Architects not to expect any Block 37-type addition atop this building in the future. The accompanying hotel that was part of the initial plan here was nixed, and planners have no intention of allowing it to be added at a later date.
