When is new construction not new construction? When someone sees fit to take an existing structure, and transform it into something new.

Such is the case with Fulton West. Developer Sterling Bay is taking over an existing parking structure at 1330 West Fulton Street in West Town and turning it into a nine-story, 290,000-square-foot office building. Designed by Grant Uhlir, a principal and co[managing director at Gensler’s Chicago office, Fulton West will include many modern amenities one might expect to find in a new condominium development, like balconies, and a private roof deck. 610 parking spaces will be included in the project as well. There will even be a 20,000-square-foot landscaped green space.

Crain’s Chicago Business is reporting that Glassdoor is looking to lease 65,000 square feet of space in Fulton West. You can read more about that here.

Sterling Bay’s been busy along the Fulton corridor, counting among its portfolio 1K Fulton, home of Google’s Midwest headquarters, the under-construction Ace Hotel across the street, and a whole host of other buildings all over the Fulton Market neighborhood. It’s all part of Sterling Bay’s “how the West is done” mantra.

As for Fulton West, general contractor Leopardo Companies is already busy ripping concrete apart and turning it into new office space for its April 2017 opening. We stopped by for a look, and found this “construction” site looks more like a demolition site so far:
