It’s been 120 years since Joe Hayden put pencil to paper and wrote “Hot Time in the Old Town Tonight.” He wasn’t writing about Chicago real estate, but might as well have, considering all the new development spilling into the area north of Cabrini Green and southwest of Lincoln Park.
The latest building to break ground is at 301 West North Avenue, better known as “that parking lot you walk past going from the Sedgwick station to Piper’s Alley.” Anything that erases a surface parking lot gets a pat on the head in our book.

Developer Sedgwick Properties has broken ground on a 69-unit luxury apartment building in Chicago’s Old Town neighborhood, expected to deliver in Fall 2017. The seven-story building, located at 301 W. North Avenue, will offer a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom luxury apartment rentals, with individual units ranging from 601 to 1,300 square feet.

Residences will feature quartz countertops, tile backsplashes, and stainless steel appliances in the kitchen, wide plank flooring, washer and dryer, expansive windows offering generous natural light and stunning views, and private outdoor space for every unit, including rooftop decks for select penthouse units.
Planned building amenities include a rooftop terrace with a wading pool and cabanas, outdoor kitchen, fire pit and lounge seating. Other amenities include a fitness center, community room with a demonstration kitchen, bicycle storage, secure heated parking, and package concierge system. The pet-friendly building also will include approximately 4,500 square feet of retail space.
