The people who want to turn the old Wilson Avenue Theater in Uptown into new residences have filed the necessary paperwork with the city for its bureaucrats and politicians to ponder its approval.

The project would restore the theater building, designed by Henry L. Ottenheimer, while at the same time putting up a pack of pads for the rapidly improving neighborhood. The neighborhood will also benefit from a freshly rehabbed community theater right across the street from a major transit station.

When we last visited this project, the developer planned to take advantage of Chicago’s recently renovated Transit Oriented Development rules and leave out much of the the parking, save for 16 ever-so-precious spaces. The current plan, filed with the city a few days ago, has increased the parking to 44 spaces in an inside garage.

It’s also increased the number of residences from 110 to 197. 155 of them will be efficiencies.
