Factory Expansion Comes to a Head in Douglas Park

It’s kind of annoying to watch Antiques Roadshow and notice that every third item was made in the Windy City. Meanwhile today we struggle to find something at Target not made in China.

So it’s always nice when we can note that a factory in Chicago is doing well enough to expand its operation. That’s what’s happening at the Lagunitas Brewing Company’s facility over in Douglas Park.

Lagunitas is the brewer of such suds as The Waldos’ Special Ale, Hairy Eyeball, and Cappuccino Stout (“for that extra krunk.”) OK, so it’s about what you expect from a beer company based in California. But if there’s two things Chicago needs, it’s jobs and beer and jobs. And beer.

Lagunitas wants to expand in a number of ways. First, with a new cold storage facility. Second, by putting a second floor on the existing brewery. Third, by expanding its restaurant to handle special events and giving it a roof deck. Here’s the specs:

  • Address: 1701 South Washtenaw Avenue
  • Address: 2601 West 17th Street
