Construction is about to ramp up on a new residential building at 710 West Grand Avenue — just steps from the CTA’s Blue Line Grand and Milwaukee subway station.
It’s the latest in a series of mid-scale residential buildings popping up like mushrooms around CTA tree stumps across the city, thanks to new Transit Oriented Development ordinances.
This one, designed by Brininstool+Lynch for Wicker Park Apartments, will have 105 residences and rise nine floors. It’s situated just east of the intersection of Grand, Milwaukee, and Halsted, against the Metra tracks. Because of the train tracks, and the fact that it won’t knock down the building at 700 West Grand, from above it has roughly the same shape as an X-acto knife blade. If you can’t remember what that looks like, inquire with your model-making department.
The city issued the necessary construction permits this past Friday, so expect activity any day now.
