A groundbreaking ceremony was held yesterday in Chicago’s Wrightwood Neighbors neighborhood for Elevate, the area’s newest luxury apartment building.
You may not recognize the address that the new building is using: 930 West Altgeld. But if you ride the CTA’s Red or Purple Lines, you’re probably familiar with the building that used to be on this site: 2518 North Lincoln. That’s the building that had all the very interesting tennis courts facing the L tracks; a throw-back to a different age in Chicago apartment living.
That building is long gone, and construction has already begun on its replacement. Elevate will have 191 residences ranging from studios to three-bedroom units. Instead of the outdated tennis courts of its predecessor, the new building will have all of the amenities that modern residents demand and expect: A yoga room, fire pit, and plunge pool.
Elevate is being built for Baker Development, which is hoping to have people living there by late 2017. The building is designed as two 11-story towers joined at the podium.
