Now that the Ricketts family has successfully transformed the Cubs baseball team from perpetual losers to hometown heroes, work continues on transforming the neighborhood around their historic ballpark.
The city has issued the next round of permits needed to begin serious construction on the Hotel Zachary. (Not that foundations aren’t serious work.)
The hotel is named for Zachary Davis, the architect who designed both Wrigley Field, and the recently renamed Guaranteed Rate Field. Down on 35th Street. OK, Sox Park. Happy?
VOA Associates is the invisible hand shaping the seven-story building.
The developers are promising that if you stay there, you can be an out-of-towner, but experience Chicago like a local. Which is PR-talk for “Hope you’re here to see the Cubs, because the only other nearby attractions are 75 bars and a couple of spooky-ass cemeteries.”
