For months, construction crews have been doing the delicate work of erecting a skyscraper at 221 West Hubbard Street while Purple, Brown, and the occasional Red Line CTA trains squeal by on the transit authority’s “Hubbard Curve.”
To date, workers have been largely shielded from the tracks, and vice versa, by a wall of yellow panels. Now the city has given its permission for construction crews at Centrum Hubbard to hitch up its britches and rise high above the cacophony below.
FULL BUILDING PERMIT FOR A PROPOSED 23 STORY, 195 DWELLING UNIT RESIDENTIAL BUILDING (GROUND FLOOR COMMERCIAL) WITH 92 PARKING SPACES AS PER PLANS
The building was designed by Hirsch Associates for Centrum Partners, both of whom have their offices conveniently located three feet away at number 225.
While 221 West Hubbard is a 23-story residential building, it comes with a little buddy next door at 205 West Hubbard. This one is a nine-story office building. Its space, however, is being used for construction staging for the larger building right now.
Location: 221 West Hubbard Street, River North
