Construction Update
Latest O’Hare Expansion Moving Along Nicely

The expansion of American Airlines operations at O’Hare airport’s Terminal 3 is moving along.  Back in October of last year we told you that the project had been issued permits to start foundation work.  A few days ago, more permits came fluttering out of City Hall, these for the general construction of the new gates:

These are the first domestic gates to be built at ORD in decades.  As the airline industry continues to evolve, more smaller gates are need for the regional jets that the carriers rely on to ferry passengers to hubs like Chicago.

The new gates will be added to the end of Concourse L, which in the Apple Maps image above looks like it was already fitted with temporary boarding facilities years ago.  The kind where you have to walk down the stairs from the airplane and walk across the tarmac like it’s the 1950’s and everyone had reasonably-sized, matching luggage.

But don’t get all excited for the new gates just yet.  It’ll be 2018 before any passengers cross any skybridges in this corner of the orchard.
