After setbacks, cancellation, a name change, revision, and de-biggening, Chicago’s next seniors-in-the-sky community is finally ready for launch. Overture Edgewater Beach now has the backing of both 48th Ward Alderman Harry Osterman and the majority of active neighbors, according to Edgeville Buzz.
Overture is a 16-story age-restrited building planned for 5440 North Sheridan Road. Designed by Steve Rezabek at Pappageorge Haymes, it originally clocked in at 18 stories, but was reduced due to density and congestion concerns. It now measures 179 feet, down from 200.
Overture brings with it 174 new residences, in a variety of sizes from one-bedrooms at 791 square feet to two-bedrooms at 1,218 square feet. There are also 144 indoor, heated parking spaces to make friends and neighbors jealous.
The next step is for the Greystar-developed building to go through all the usual paperwork and committee processes at city hall. But with Aldermanic support, that is seen as a non-problem.
