One of Chicago’s oldest and most respected organizations is going to soon have a rooftop hang-out to let down its hair.
The University Club of Chicago is getting ready to unveil its expanded headquarters at 76 East Monroe Street. The organization has been busy building into and onto its neighboring building cluster, known as the Gage Group. It popped off the seventh floor roof at 30 South Michigan to make it taller, and added an eighth floor as well.
The multi-million dollar expansion will give the organization several new venues:
- The Living Room — billed as a casual bar and lounge
- Dry Storage — a more intimate boozery in the tradition of Chicago’s speakeasies
- The Parliament — a rooftop restaurant with epic views of Millennium Park and Lake Michigan
- And two new spaces for members only events
If you managed to visit the Cliff Dwellers aerie during Open House Chicago, you have some idea of the kind of incredible views possible from this setup.
Antunovich Associates designed the new expansion, with Looney and Associates handling the interiors. The official opening is September 15th.
