The oh-so-familiar drone of the caisson drill has returned to Wolf Point with a vengeance.
After the triumphant completion of Wolf Point West, River Point, and 150 North Riverside there was a temporary quieting in the construction-day cacophony that for the last two years has bounced off the skyscrapers lining the Chicago River. But that’s all past now that Pelli Clark Pelli’s Wolf Point East (313 West Wolf Point Plaza) is officially a thing.
East (can we call you East?) has been sinking its roots into the edge of the river for the last few weeks. And when we say “edge,” we mean right up to the edge of the riverbank, as shown in the photograph below by Joe Zekas at YoChicago!.
It’s similar to the straddling act accomplished by bKL across the lot at Wolf Point West. West is so close to the river that the riverwalk actually goes under a corner of the building. But it’s those kind of interesting eccentricities that make people love architecture and engineering, isn’t it?
