An old neighborhood commercial building will make way for a new entertainment complex coming to Chicago’s Jackson Park Highlands neighborhood.
South Shore Commercial Properties filed paperwork with the City of Chicago recently to begin work at 7054 South Jeffrey Boulevard on what it describes as, “an approximately 46,000 SF commercial, retail development including cinema, bowling, restaurant, and event space.”
The development will be across the street from the 71st Street station for the Metra Electric District branch linking Millennium Station in The Loop with 93rd Street. Because of that robust transit link, the developers have asked the city for permission to only have 20 parking spaces, instead of the usual 72 for a project of this type.
The bank building used to be an Urban Partnership Bank, until that firm moved out in early 2014. Before that it was a ShoreBank.
The new building will house a ten-screen cinema, and a Cajun restaurant, as well as a rooftop entertainment venue.
The architecture firms working on this project are Johnson and Lee in The Loop, 555 Design in Back of the Yards, and TK Architects in Kansas City.
