With the first day of winter knocking on our door, it seems strange to think about the first day of baseball. But that’s what they’re preparing for next to Wrigley Field.
Wrigleyville Spy Greg sent in these photographs showing that the new Hotel Zachary is really coming along. The new hotel building is six-stories tall, and will eventually have 179 guest rooms over ground floor retail.
The Ricketts Family named the hotel for Aurora’s very own Zachary Davis, the architect of Wrigley Field. In his time, he was known as the Frank Lloyd Wright of baseball. Mr. Davis couldn’t help with the design of this building because he’s been dead for 70 years, so it’s VOA Associates that is on architect duty for this one.
As we noted a little over a year ago, when construction started:
The developers are promising that if you stay there, you can be an out-of-towner, but experience Chicago like a local. Which is PR-talk for “Hope you’re here to see the Cubs, because the only other nearby attractions are 75 bars and a couple of spooky-ass cemeteries.”
The hotel should be ready to greet guests in 2018.
