Construction Update
Mid-Century Loop Building Won’t Make it to Mid-March

The Midcentury Modern office building at 110 North Wacker Drive won’t be around by the end of the month, judging by the quick work demolition crews are making of it.

The 1956 110 North Wacker by Graham, Anderson, Probst & White is being replaced by a 2020 110 North Wacker by Goettsch Partners.  So far, according to the photo above from Loop Spy Joel, the old building is just about half gone.

Foundation work for the new 51-story replacement is scheduled to begin in April of this year, and the building is expected to top-out in December 2019.  Occupancy will take place from March through October of 2020.

According to the new 110 North Wacker’s marketing material, there will be new ground floor retail space, including a riverside cafe.  The building also gets a car wash, cell phone-friendly elevators, and its own mobile phone app.

Whichever company decides to least the 51st and 52nd floors will have the option of having the space kitted out with a two-story, north-facing atrium.  There’s also atrium opportunities on the 34th, 38th,  and 49th floors.  And whomever splashes out for the 53rd floor will have access to a 1,400-square-foot outdoor deck. (Level 52 will have two smaller outdoor decks.)

The public gets a riverwalk that is beneath the building’s western portion.  People will actually walk beneath part of the building, with the lobby on one side and angled beams on the other.
