So much of the world’s great architecture is designed right here in Chicago by Chicagoans, but it’s not built in Chicagoland so it goes unseen by the hometown crowd. That’s why we are featuring the great works produced by Chicago architects continuing the city’s proud legacy as the birthplace of the skyscraper, and a global center of architecture.
Studio Gang, which made a name for itself by taking curved architecture to a new level, is at it again. This time in Los Angeles. Urbanize LA reports that the Noble Square architecture firm has been tapped for a 26-story hotel and apartment combo in L.A.’s Chinatown neighborhood.
Once again, the gang at Gang has put together a design that builds on its fundamentals, while not having the same old look over and over. The result is a building that is very curvy, loaded with coveted balconies, and truly distinctive. Though, it’s not hard to stand out as a high rise in Los Angeles, which is still very much a city of walk-up living.
When complete, 643 North Spring Street will deliver a 194 room MOB Hotel and 294 apartments to the neighborhood.
