Today we continue a series of reports we call “Chicago Exports.”
So much of the world’s great architecture is designed right here in Chicago by Chicagoans, but it’s not built in Chicagoland so it goes unseen by the hometown crowd. That’s why we are featuring the great works produced by Chicago architects continuing the city’s proud legacy as the birthplace of the skyscraper, and a global center of architecture.
Loop architecture firm Goettsch Partners has another big tower going up in China.
The building called China Resources Center Tower 1 anchors the CR Center in the city of Changchun, about 600 miles northeast of Beijing. When complete, the entire complex will cover eight acres.
Construction began recently on the Changchun CR Center. The skyscraper clocks in at 980 feet tall, and has an 66th-floor observatory in the building’s illuminated crown.
When complete in 2021, the project will have a 1.8 million square foot MixC-branded retail and entertainment complex at its base designed by Hong Kong’s Lead8.
The tower will become the regional headquarters for China Resources Land Limited. This is GP’s third project with China Resources.
