Long-Vacant Edgewater Lot Gets Yet Another Building Plan

5440 North Sheridan isn’t a bad lot.  But since that motel got knocked down years ago nothing seems to click there.  Edgeville Buzz says the location has been empty for at least a decade.  And we’ve tracked at least three proposals for new residential buildings at that address — none of them have panned out.

The latest proposal comes from Cedar Street Companies, the people behind the Flats residential brand.

The difference this time is that most people seem to be OK with the Cedar proposal.  It has the support of both the local neighborhood group and 48th Ward Alderman Harry Osterman.

It’s a five-story, 78-unit building with studios through three-bedroom residences.  That’s a far cry from previous notions for this space that went as far as 18 stories and 191 units.

Location: 5440 North Sheridan Road, Edgwater
