If you asked Santa for a new development in West Town for Christmas, the fat man came through for you. West Town Spy A put a big red bow on a plain manilla envelope full of photos and shoved it through our tip line. The pix show a soil sampling truck boring away at 401 North Ogden Street.
Those of you who get your brew by the barrel will know this location as the parking lot of the old Lakeshore Beverage building. According to Crain’s Chicago Business, it was sold to Peppercorn Capital back in 2014. If you don’t know Peppercorn, take a quick tour of its 1990’s-flavored web site to see the likes of Abraham Lincoln and Mr. Spock flogging real estate.
Peppercorn’s properties are almost all low-rise brick buildings in the neighborhood, so it’s too early to get your hopes up about someone wedging a new skyscraper into the oddly-shaped space. But since there are other skyscrapers going up just blocks away, it wouldn’t be crazy to expect cranes to soar by the end of next year.
