Kennedy-Encroaching Skyscraper Broaching the West Loop This Week

If you dig those Japanese car racing games where you speed through an idealized, canyonized, urbanized Celtic knot in the dark, there’s good news for your inner Speed Racer.  The Kennedy Expressway is going to look a little more like Ridge Racer, and a little less like Chicago Ridge.

A public meeting has been called to discuss 640 West Washington, a 47-story skyscraper planning to perch right on the edge of the highway, across from another skyscraper of similar stature.  It will erase the surface parking lot that occupies the southern half of the block also inhabited by R+D659.

You may remember we first told you about this project back in December.  It’s a Crescent Heights building designed by Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture bringing 413 new residences to the West Loop, plus 8,000 square feet of retail space, and room for 137 cars to park.

If you want to get a taste of the virtual action, join the Google ChatGoogle HangoutGoogle Hangouts MeetGoogle Meet on Wednesday, February 3rd at 6pm.

Location: 640 West Washington Boulevard, West Loop
