Kennedy Canyon Closer to Completion

The long-term plan to line the Kennedy Expressway with skyscrapers like some 1990’s Japanese video game is about to take another big leap forward.  Chicago City Council has approved 640 West Washington Street.

640 (“Six” to her friends) is going to be a 515-foot-tall residential tower hard on the edge of the highway, snuggled between R+D659, and The Catalyst.  It joins nearby neighbors Skybridge and 727 West Madison in continuing to funnel the noise, fumes, and existence of the city’s busiest artery into the stratosphere where it will only be a nuisance to passing jets.

It will also stomp another pesky surface parking lot into the history books.

When complete, the Crescent Heights building designed by Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture will bring 413 new homes to the West Loop, along with 8,000 square feet of retail space.

Location: 640 West Washington Boulevard, West Loop
