We’ve been talking about building proposals for 1050 West Van Buren Street for a presidency and a half. Now the current proposal for this parcel has been tweaked. Again.
If you’ve forgotten where 1050 is after all this time, it’s on the Near West Side, just east of Target, and just north of I-290. Or as Google Maps sometimes calls it for no apparent reason, “Illinois 110/The Kansas City-Chicago Expressway.”

The Department of Planning and Development recently gave the owners permission to change the proportions of this project. It’s now shorter, has more cars, and is larger around the bottom. Much like your high school boyfriend.
- Height: 231 feet → 195 feet
- Podium size: 2 stories → 3 stories
- Residences: 201 → 196
- Automobile parking: 69 spaces → 70 spaces
The stamp of approval from City Hall means the developers now have until October 15, 2022 to start construction on this project.
While these are somewhat minor changes, they’re sure to have some visual impact. But we haven’t seen any new renderings, so here’s an old one:

Location: 1050 West Van Buren Street, Near West Side
