A Lithuanian Nickelodeon’s Second Act

98 years ago the doors opened at The Eagle Theater.  In 1914 it was a nickelodeon in the heart of Bridgeport’s Lithuanian community.  Today, dozens of theaters in the area have been abandoned or bulldozed, but the Eagle continues as a banquet hall for the Polo Cafe (3322 South Morgan Street).  Though it’s not much to look at from the outside, inside the mezzanine still exists, along with the theater organ.
